Daughter of Dutch professional cyclist Jef Dominicus and Dutch revue and operetta-singer Belia Van Lier,Tonia was born in Anderlecht/Belgium.Tonia started performing at age 12,among other things she performed for 6 years at the "Folies Bergères" in Brussels as a singer-danser,like her mother.She became known as a perfect bi-lingual singer in French as well as in Dutch.Of course everybody remembers her cheeky mouth and her 2 cute dimples.Tonia's first record was a French-language one "Mon p'tit copain de vacances",her first Dutch-language records in 1963 were translations from German songs "Drie musketiers" (Conny/Drei Musketiere) and "Met 16 kan je nog dromen" (Peggy March/Mit 17 hat man noch Träume).Her best known song from that period is of course "Geef mij voor mijn verjaardag toch een Beatle" in Dutch or "Pour mon anniversaire je voudrais un Beatle" in French,a tranlation of "Ich wünsch mir zum Geburtstag einen Beatle" from German girl-group The Sweetles.In 1965 she participated in the "Knokke-cup",there she sang amongst others the French version of "Forget Domani" and ended second with the Belgian team.In 1966 she represented Belgium in the Eurovision song-contest with "Un peu de poivre,un peu de sel" and ended fourth,Belgium's highest notation at that time.After that Tonia disappeared from the Belgian music-scene,and married trumpet-player Albert Mertens.End 60's - early 70's Tonia had a string of hits in Germany with songs like "Texas Cowboy Pferde Sattel Verkauferin" and others.Tonia performed numerous times on television and even had her own tv-show it seems,if anybody should have some footage?

Norwegian music a gogo : Kirsti Sparboe

Incredibly Kirsti's whole career seems to be focused around the Eurovision song-contest.She entered the Norwegian pre-selection in 65,66,67,68,69,72,74 and 77 either alone or in collaboration with other musicians.She represented Norway on the Eurovision song-contest in 65,67,68 (collaboration) and 69 but never won.Besides from that only two singles where released by her in Norway (66 with The Vanguards/69 with Benny Borg) but she released at least 9 singles in Germany (sung in German) where she was pretty big.She also released 2 albums in Norway,one in the early 70's and one in the early 80's.Here's her entry for the 1969 Eurovision contest.

Schlocker has a new sister blog!

Since the demise of Mr.Barf's Dang! and Ianb's Retrobabe and sister sites,I suddenly started to feel chilly,so I decided to re-open Ian's 2 minutes of bliss (with his kind permission).I guess it will have a mix of the music of Retrobabe and the original 2 minutes of bliss with a pinch of Dang! and a tea-spoon of personal flavour thrown in.
So if you're up for it,drop on by at 2 minutes of bliss 2.Naturellement Schlocker will still have top priority... :)

Music a gogo : France Gall in Deutsch

It's taken a while for France's German songs to grow on me,but now after hearing them over and over again,I'm glad I bought the "France Gall das Beste in Deutsch" cd at Amazon Germany.This is a "best of" of her 60's German songs (originals and German versions of her hits).They're selling like hot pies it seems!
Actually a bunch of her German language songs are missing from this (budget) compilation.Like this one,the German version of "Nous ne sommes pas des anges".

Not that much seems to be known about Noëlle Cordier,she represented France in the 1967 Eurovision songcontest,released a couple of ep's in the 60's and continued her career with success into the 70's.This song is from her Eurovision ep,seems there are a lot of good "fillers" on these Eurovision 45's! I got a request to also post "Il doit faire beau là-bas" so...

German music a gogo : Hildegard Knef

This German actress and singer (from 1963 on) released loads of records in her long carreer.A career that lasted well into the 80's.She also wrote a lot of her own lyrics.Here's a very funny song (about the fact that in Brasil you can only get coffee and even the crocodiles smell like coffee-beans!) from the early 70's.Thanks to Guuzbourg again!
